was / were sebagai bentuk past tense dan subjunctive verb :

was / were digunakan sebagai auxiliary verbs dalam bentuk past tense, past continuous tense, and past passive tense

A. Auxiliary was digunakan jika subyek-nya tunggal.

Contoh :

• I was really scared after watching a horror movie last night.
• She was happy to celebrate her birthday.
• It was left for several days before the owner came to take it.

B. Auxiliary were digunakan jika subyek-nya jamak.

Contoh :

A. Have / has dipakai sebagai kata kerja (menunjukkan kepemilikan)
